We Have to Talk for the Flowers to Grow, 2022

audio-reactive projection that produces digital drawings of flowers via two-channel microphone inputs

We Have to Talk for the Flowers to Grow is an interactive projection that explodes with flurries of flowers from two microphones’ inputs. One microphone controls the release of colorful plants, and the opposing microphone produces blue flowers. As a means of visualizing language, as well as activating the floriography prevalent in Chinese porcelain, this piece “grows” its visuals only when participants are conversing. There is no output for the sound, allowing the space to solely fill up with the flowers’ forms and reflections.
